Despite the fact the meeting was advertised and it was an item on their agenda, the Clifton Twp. Board of Supervisors failed to adopt the amended Racetrack Zoning Ordinance as planned.

When the ordinance came up under the “Old Business” section of the meeting agenda, Board Chairman Theodore Stout announced, “There will be no action on this tonight as we have to study it further.”

Resident Kathleen Halat was one of the few residents that was there exclusively because of this issue and was visibly concerned.  When she asked why the supervisors would not act on it, they simply repeated they had to study the issue further.

Halat had been satisfied with the changes the township made to the existing ordinance as she understood them and believed the passing of this ordinance was a done deal.

Twp. Solicitor Robert Sayers assured Halat that there would not be any changes to the issues that concerned her.  When this correspondent asked Sayers specifically which items in the amended zoning ordinance they were going to look at, I was told that he needed to investigate the changes further to make sure they comply with the zoning law.

The ordinance, as proposed (Ordinance #2-2010), will revise the definition of a Racetrack in Article III of the bylaws, amend the zoning map, delete racetracks from the commercial district, add a CT-RT overlay district, provide standards for racetracks, increased setbacks and buffers, and update noise limitations and standards.
