To say that North Pocono’s girls varsity hoops season has been exciting thus far would be a serious understatement.
Under the direction of rookie skipper Dan Hogan, the Lady Trojans have posted electrifying wins over Abington Heights and Holy Cross, but then suffered heartbreaking setbacks to the likes of Honesdale and Paupack.
As The Villager went to press Monday night, North Pocono was reeling in the wake of back-to-back disappointing outings...one a Lackawnna League loss to the Hornets and the other a non-league encounter with Crestwood.
With these results in the book, North Pocono sports a 6-6 overall record and a 2-3 Division I mark. This week, the going won’t get any easier with a pair of home games against West Scranton (Wednesday) and Montrose (Friday).
Tough Losses
Last Thursday evening, North Pocono paid a visit to Honesdale and never got its offense untracked.
The Lady Trojans fought hard from start to finish, but came out in the short end of a 45-38 final.
Kaitlyn Lewis paced the offensive attack. The talented freshman point guard scored from all conceivable angles en route to a team-best 11 markers.
Senior power forward Amanda Reach found herself in early foul trouble and missed large chunks of the second and fourth periods. Consequently, she was held to just two buckets and six total points.
Megan Taylor contributed six points to the cause, while Lizzy Lisiecki, Rory Jordan and Jill Batrleson chipped in with four each.
Reach rebounded in the Crestwood contest, powering her way to a game-high 12 points. Lewis added nine and Lisiecki six.
Score by Quarters...
NP (6-6) 9 11 7 11 - 38
HON (9-3) 14 10 10 11 - 45
