The Lady Trojans couldn’t get off a shot with 6.6 seconds left on the clock against host Paupack on Thursday night, dropping a heartbreaker 39-38 to the Lady Bucks.
“They just played 32 minutes with one of the best teams in the league,” said North Pocono coach Dan Hogan.
“To lose this game is hard, and I have to take a lot of the blame for that.”
With the final score showing the Lady Trojans just one point shy, Hogan was referring to early in the second quarter when his team was called for a technical foul for having a wrong number listed in the official scorebook.
Paupack’s Paige Hiller drained 1 of 2 from the charity stripe, and that one point came back to haunt North Pocono.
“It was a silly administrative mistake, and I take the blame for it,” added Hogan.
Game Time
The Trojans struck first in the game, just 45 seconds into the contest,h when Maria Day rippled the twine from nine feet out, but Paupack took the first quarter by a score of 10-8.
In the second stanza, the Lady Trojans put up 15 points on buckets from Kaitlyn Lewis (8 pts) and Megan Taylor (7 pts), but again the Lady Bucks outscored them by one point to take a 26-23 deficit into the intermission.
Second Half
Amanda Reach and Lady Trojans came out of the locker room and immediately regained the lead.
Reach hit a three just 35 seconds into the half, and then Lizzy Lisiecki stole the ball, dribbled down court and fed a wide open Reach for the easy lay-up to make it 28-26 in favor of North Pocono.
“I’ve said this before, and I’ll say it again, Lizzy is one of the best defenders in the entire league and she played really hard out there tonight,” said Hogan.
The third stanza saw North Pocono’s defense step up and allowed Paupack to score just two points, while they put up eight and rode a 31-28 lead into the fourth quarter.
They extended that lead to five points off a quick bucket from Lisiecki, but saw that advantage evaporate down the final stretch as Paupack went on a 11-5 run to close out the game.
Lewis paced the Trojans with a team-high 13 points. Reach added 10, Lisiecki had six, Taylor with five, and Jill Bartleson and Maria Day each chipped in two apiece.
