The Lady Trojans basketball team is back on the hardwood and under the direction of a new head coach. Dan Hogan, a familiar face within the program, has taken over the duties and looks forward to another successful North Pocono season.

Q: How long have you been involved with North Pocono basketball?

A: This is my fourth season with North Pocono. I spent my first three years as a junior varsity coach under Jeff West. I have also spent the last two seasons coaching our junior high program.

Q: What is your basketball background. Where you played high school, college, etc., and what kind of influence did playing have on your coaching style?

A: I played high school basketball at West Scranton from 1999-2002. Bill Gibbons, my high school coach, had a huge impact on me as both a player and a coach. He spent the last few years as the head coach of Scranton's girls' varsity program and we stayed in touch quite often.
After high school, I went on to play at Lebanon Valley College in Annville, PA. I played there from 2002-2006. Playing for Coach Brad McAlester was probably one of the biggest basketball influences of my life. I plan on taking a lot from the system we ran in college and incorporating it with our girls.

Q: What are your expectations as a first year head coach for the Lady Trojans?

A: I have high expectations as a first year coach. A big reason for that is because I've been a part of the program for so long and I know all the girls in our program from top to bottom.
I want to build on the progress we made last year and continue our program moving in the right direction.
I don't like looking ahead to districts or states as expectations because I want to look at each practice and game one day at a time and hopefully we get better each day we step in the gym.

Q: What kind of coaching philosophy, or style, would you say that you bring to the program?

A: Offensively and defensively, I want to move this season. I love getting the ball up and down the court and using defense to do it. I want to see our girls all over the court defensively and I want to make people very uncomfortable when they step on the court with us.

Coach Hogan is married to his wife Gabby and currently teaches eighth grade history at North Pocono Middle School. The Lady Trojans open their varsity schedule on Nov. 26 at Old Forge for a scrimmage.
