T he Moosic Mets just recently closed out their 2011 baseball season with yet another outstanding outing at an invitational tournament.
Led by several local lads, the Mets advanced to the semifinals at Diamond Nation, which is located in Flemington (NJ).
With a 3-1 performance, Moosic finished off its ‘11 season with an overall re-cord of 34-23-4.
Strong Finish
Under the direction of longtime manager Harry Nelson, the Mets opened their Diamond Nation title quest with a solid 5-3 win over the North Jersey Cardinals.
North Pocono’s own Ray Grapsy paced the offensive assault with a pair of clutch RBIs. Chase Knott earned the pitching decision, striking out seven in a solid complete game effort.
Grapsy remained red-hot in Game Two, leading the Mets to a 5-1 decision over the CT Blue Jays.
Ray ripped a single and a double in support of winning pitcher Jordan Meyer. Grapsy also scored a run and collected a pair of RBIs.
Adam Misiura contributed a clutch 2-run single as the Mets advanced to the medal round via a 7-2 decision over the Long Island Titans Blue.
In this final game of pool play, Grapsy enjoyed a perfect 2-for-2 day at the dish. Ray crushed a solo homer and then added an RBI triple.
Tim Knesnik fired yet another complete game for Moosic, allowing just three hits and striking out eight over the course of six solid innings. With this win, the Mets advanced to the tournament semifinals and a date with South Troy.
Moosic and the Dodgers battled into extra innings. The two teams were tied at 1-1 through seven, then knotted at 3-3 after eight.
South Troy finally sealed the deal on a 7-3 win with four runs in the top of the ninth.
Grapsy and Misiura accounted for two of the Mets’ six basehits. Adam also suffered a hard-luck pitching loss in relief of starter Chris Choman.
Grapsy closed out his campaign with a robust .297 batting average. Ray played in 51 games and delivered a team-high 44 hits. He also scored 19 runs, ripped seven doubles and amassed 25 RBIs.
