North Pocono Youth Wrestling Club hosts home meet

The Middle School gym was packed for the North Pocono Youth Wrestling program's home meet on Sunday, January 27.

The meet ran smoothly with hundreds of area wrestlers hitting the mats.

Schools attending included: Honesdale, Damascus, Western Wayne, Wallenpaupack Area and East Stroudsburg North.

On the Mats

North Pocono’s first match up was against Paupack.

The young Trojans tallyied 18 wins out of 43 bouts. NP then wrestled Honesdale, racking up 15 wins out of 32 bouts.

Additional matches were also set up for those who wanted more mat time.

“Our kids did great,” said Coach Mike Brown.

“Considering it’s the club’s second year, we had a total of 38 wrestlers compete racking up 46 pins against the two schools.”

North Pocono had many standouts including Connor Kennedy, age 6, pinning his opponent in just 10.8 seconds.

Vita Gutierres pinnned her opponent in 16 seconds. Louis Antidormi, age 10, had a total of 4 pins while Mike Boyle, age 7, followed up with 2 pins.

The concession booth was also a stand out with homemade chili, sausage and peppers, haluski, BBQ pulled pork and chicken all prepared by volunteers.

“What a great turnout!” exclaimed Kristen Vonahnen, NPYWC Board Secretary.

“This was our biggest fundraiser of the year and we couldn’t have done it without the help and commitment of our volunteers and sponsors.”

This season sponsors include NEPA Tax Associates LLC, Coccia Ford Lincoln, Kipp E. Adcock Magisterial District Judge, Pure Lavi Salon, Picc’s Ice Cream, Down Home Homemade Pudding, Encore Outdoor Advertising, Nina’s Pizza and ShopRite of Daleville.
