The winners have been announced for Roaring Brook Township's Annual Snowman Contest. The Recreation Commission received 20 entries from residents, and they also introduced a new category - Snow Sculpture. First place winners received a blue ray player and DVD, other winners were awarded movies or gift cards. The following were this year’s winners: 1st Place Jeff, Jake and Nick Ostrowski; 2nd Place Glucksnis family; 3rd Place Rylie Nealon; Snow Sculpture Winner Kowalski family.

Set in the heart of the Poconos, Alpine Mountain was recently purchased by its management company, Mountain Resort Ski & Golf, Inc. With a corporate office in Covington Twp., MRSG handles the day to day management and maintenance of the ski and tubing facilities, and is optimistic regarding Alpine’s future. MRSG is currently developing short and long term goals regarding the ski area including improvements to the lodge, lifts, and maintenance equipment to enhance the overall appearance, efficiency and year round activities at Alpine Mountain. The Pennsylvania State Police in Dunmore is investigating three burglaries at two residences on River Road in Thornhurst Twp., between Jan. 31 and April 16. Images of some of the stolen items can be seen above. Anyone with information on the location of the items or the burglaries is asked to contact Tpr. Kyle Hnat at 963-3156.

Earlier this year, Totally Tan & Synergy Salon, a full-service salon located at 400 N. Main St., Moscow, opened on Sunday to host a fundraiser in memory of a little girl named Savana Sciulara, who passed away from leukemia back in December of 2008. The event was organized by Kelly Davies, an employee of the salon who also happens to be the owner's daughter. All of the proceeds from manicures and pedicures that were performed on this day were donated directly to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, whose mission is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families. The Borough of Moscow celebrated Russian Christmas by holding a community art-walk celebration which brought together North Pocono area businesses, artists and musicians. An extension of last year’s celebration which included a small group of people gathered together at Moscow Clayworks, the North Pocono Cultural Society decided to sponsor a larger event this year for the entire North Pocono community to enjoy. Below are pictures of the evening's festivities.
