Nearly $25 million is on its way to volunteer fire companies and ambulance services across Pennsylvania, but only if the organizations finish the paperwork, said State Sen. Tim Solobay.
The grants have been approved to help first responder organizations buy new equipment, make repairs to existing equipment, pay off debts or provide training and certification. However, the money will not be released until the organizations complete a Grant Agreement Form and send it to the State Office of the Fire Commissioner.
“I know that local volunteer leaders are busy doing the work they were trained to do,” Solobay said. “The can all use a reminder that there is another step in the process of receiving these grants in a timely manner.”
More information on the forms is available at www.SenatorSolobay.com.
The grants are being awarded through the Volunteer Fire Company and Volunteer Ambulance Service Grant Program, administered by the Office of the State Fire Commissioner. The grant program was created in 2003 using gaming proceeds.
Across Pennsylvania, 2,569 organizations were approved for grants averaging about $10,000 each. The annual application period begins in the first week in September and lasts 45 days.
