Lackawanna County
In the early morning hours of Wednesday, Jan. 18, PSP-Dunmore arrived on the scene of a fatal crash on Center Road, south of Fox and Hound Road, Covington Twp.
According to the police report, Shawn Buchleitner, 33, of Moscow, was driving a 1997 Plymouth Voyager minivan southbound on Center Road when the vehicle traveled off the left side of the roadway, struck a tree and rolled onto its side at about 5 a.m.
Buchleitner, who state police said was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, was pronounced dead at the scene. Speed is also believed to have played a factor in the crash, troopers said. The incident remains under investigation.
State Police were assisted at the scene by Covington Twp. Fire and Ambulance and Lackawanna County Coroner’s Office.
Wayne County
A Pleasant Mount man was killed in the early morning hours of Thursday, Jan. 19.
According to PSP-Honesdale, at around 4 a.m., Michael Mang, 38, was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 northbound on State Road 670 approximately a quarter mile north of Long Pond Road in Mount Pleasant Twp.
The police report said that “for unknown reasons,” the vehicle left the northbound lane and struck a tree head-on.
Mang, who state police said was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, was ejected from the vehicle. Mang died as a result of the injuries sustained in the crash.
