Man sets off explosive devices outside of home in Lake Como

On Jan. 19, at approximately 8:30 p.m., PSP-Honesdale responded to an incident at SR-247, Lake Como, Preston Twp. In the commission of this crime, Steven J. Caiati, 34, of Lake Como, set off homemade explosive devices outside of a structure occupied by a 36-year-old male, two females ages 27 and 62, and two children, a six-year-old girl and a one-year-old boy. Caiati was charged with five counts of arson, five counts of recklessly endangering another person, and one count of mass destruction.

On Jan 20, an arrest warrant was issued for Caiati and a search warrant was approved for his dwelling. Due to the seriousness of this incident and information provided to troopers, PSP Special Emergency Response Team, Bomb Unit, Clandestine Lab Team and PSP Fire Marshall Unit executed the search warrant of his residence.

Caiati, who was not at the residence at the time, was located in the Lake Como area without further incident. Caiati was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Carney and remanded to the custody of Wayne County Prison in lieu of $300,000 bail.
