On Jan. 26, at approximately 2:45 p.m., PSP-Dunmore responded to an incident at the intersection of Delaware Street and Sanderson Avenue in Scranton.
John Jennings, 20, of Scranton, was operating a 2007 Honda Pilot at high speed when he ran a stop sign on Sanderson Avenue. A trooper witnessed the violation and attempted to stop him. Jennings fled along with two passengers through the Green Ridge and Pine Brook sections of Scranton. Jennings’ vehicle struck parked all terrain vehicles at Murray Kawasaki’s residence on Larch Street and then continued fleeing. His rear seat passenger jumped from the vehicle during the pursuit.
Jennings then traveled back to Sanderson Avenue and drove up onto the sidewalk. Troopers attempted to block the vehicle but Jennings rammed the trooper’s car. The pursuit continued up Green Ridge Street. State police, Dunmore Borough and Lackawanna County Sheriff’s units positioned themselves at Dunmore corners. Jennings pulled over prior to the corners and was taken into custody. He was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, fleeing and eluding, recklessly endangering another person, driving without a license and numerous traffic violations.
