U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) announced that Pennsylvania will receive $44,022,951 in LIHEAP funds because of Congressional passage of a year-end funding bill. The bill, which Congress recently passed, will provide $845 million in LIHEAP funds to low-income and older Americans, including over $44 million to Pennsylvania.
Senator Casey has been leading the push in the U.S. Senate to increase LIHEAP funding, cosponsoring a bill that would up the level of funding this fiscal year. Today’s injection of funds comes at critical time for many Pennsylvanians who are struggling to heat their homes as winter approaches.
“All across Pennsylvania, hardworking families are struggling to heat their homes. This funding is just what is needed to help more Pennsylvanians warm their homes this winter,” Senator Casey said. “These funds are a step in the right direction to keep Pennsylvania’s families warm this winter, but we must do more to increase LIHEAP funding this fiscal year.”
The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is administered by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and is designed to assist low income households, particularly those with the lowest incomes that pay a high proportion of household income for home energy, primarily in meeting their immediate home energy needs.
