U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) announced that a recently passed year-end funding bill contains $6.4 billion that could help Pennsylvania recover from Irene and Lee.

Under the bill, the $6.4 billion in funding will be made available to all states who suffered disasters in the last year, including Pennsylvania.

“As we approach the holidays too many Pennsylvanians are still struggling in the aftermath of Irene and Lee, these funds can help boost the recovery and rebuilding process,” Casey said. “I’ll be pushing hard to make sure that Pennsylvania receives as much of these disaster funds as possible.”

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will receive $6.4 billion from this bill, all of which will be allocated to the Disaster Relief Fund, which pays for all costs associated with presidentially declared disasters. The Army Corps will receive $1.724 billion from the legislation, which will be directed to the Flood Control and Costal Emergencies Account.
