HAWLEY - A fresh coat of paint has brightened Hawley Public Library, courtesy of Sherwin Williams, the paint company and its Honesdale region outlet store. A crew from Sherwin Williams along with a painting contractor came down to Hawley Saturday, June 9 and painted the library’s exterior free of charge.
Tyler Crifasi, Assistant Manager at the store based at 250 Grandview Avenue, said this was a way for the company to give back to the community. It was part of National Painting Week in which local Sherwin Williams stores reach out to their neighbors and find a willing recipient of the company’s good will gesture. They contacted with Seminario Painting, of Honesdale.
National Painting Week is held each spring. The Honesdale area store opened in November 2016, and this was the first opportunity they had to participate in the program. Crifasi said that they had a couple options, and decided to offer their services to the Hawley Library.
Deborah Corcoran, Library Administrator said, “Sherwin Williams came to us with the offer to paint. It was a total surprise, but a welcome one!”
She said that they worked with the company which offered expert advice, on picking out colors. The exterior trim, exterior basement walls and shutters were among the areas being painted, as well as the gazebo. Colors were being coordinated to match the roof over the railroad car.
They also plan to paint the teen room in the youth department downstairs. Leyna, the Youth Librarian, consulted with teens to come up with the color scheme for the room.
Brandon Seminario, the contractor, brought his family. Even his young daughters, Andrea and Brielle, were helping to paint the outdoor railings.
“The project is an incredible boon for the library,” Corcoran said. “Not only will the building have a fresh look, it will be better protected from the elements. And the new colors in the teen room will make it an even more fun place to hang out.”
“It’s all about the community; we try and help each other out,” Crifasi said. “I hope it’ll drive more people to the library.”
