“Home is knowing. Knowing your mind, knowing your heart, knowing your courage. If we know ourselves, we’re always home, anywhere.” Glinda, The Wizard of Oz
Lions, Tigers and Bears…oh my! Phoenix Kids are now performing “Disco Wizard of Oz” and will be grooving down the yellow brick road 70’s style upcoming at the local Phoenix Performing Arts Center.
Audiences will be in awe as Dorothy and her friends boogie down the yellow brick road searching for their way back home to Kansas. This stage adaptation is a new twist on a classic story and is performed with a disco style and flare.
Move over ruby red slippers, Dorothy and the cast are donning brightly colored and sparkly high-top converse sneakers! Audiences will adore the upbeat music (of all the beloved Oscar-winning songs), the neon colors, the ripped clothing and the 70’s style unique décor that lights up the stage.
In addition to the colorful clothing, the “far out” cast is dancing and busting a move all the way to the Land of Oz. Some characters, such as the flying monkeys, skate around in Heelys on the stage. The adorable munchkins in their vividly colored outfits will have audiences laughing and digging the new twist!
A few local North Pocono residents are taking the stage in this fun theatrical performance. Deneva Lefever, a sixth grade North Pocono student, stars as the Wicked Witch of the West, wearing groovy leggings and black glittery high top sneakers! She will be sure to frighten audiences with her evil laugh and plot against Dorothy and her trio.
The young Abromavage sisters, Kendal and Natalia, with their adorable personalities play two of the young munchkins in Munchkin land.
And, I take the stage as the Scarecrow with my straw hat, ripped jeans and gold converse sneakers dancing down the yellow brick road with the Lion, Tin Man and Dorothy at my side. The talented cast of children ages 4 to 13 will keep audiences smiling and in amazement the entire time.
