Juniors at North Pocono Jonathan Haikes, Ian Hipps, and Daniel Jaggars along with senior Amanda Murphy recently qualified for Regional Orchestra on March 8-10.

Amanda and Ian qualified on violin, Jonathan on string bass, and Daniel on clarinet.

“I think it’s great that musicians from all over the region are able to collaborate and make incredible music,” says Ian Hipps.

These students had to first go to District Orchestra and audition for the best chair in their instrument group.

The best chairs are selected to go to Regional Orchestra.

The selected students are given new music for regionals and have about a month to prepare for it.

This area’s Regional Orchestra is comprised of students from our local district and a district in and around Allentown.

“Meeting new people from different areas of the state is always a good experience.

“It allows you to learn new things from your newly met peers and forge new friendships that may last a lifetime.

“Of course music is the medium for all of this which makes it even better,” says regional qualifier Dan Jaggars. Regional Orchestra is similar to District Orchestra in that students audition for the best chair in their instrument group to qualify for All-state Orchestra.

“It is a very great experience and helps show students what it is like to be in an environment with other musicians from different areas, and experience better playing levels than at our own schools,” says Jonathan Haikes about the regional competition.

“Regional Orchestra is good for everyone who participates, whether or not they’re going to school for music.

“It gives students a chance to play great orchestral repertoire,” says Ian Hipps.

Ian Hipps qualified for all-state orchestra on violin! He was in the top 4 of the violin section made up of around 25 students.

“It’s a very vigorous audition process, but it’s important to just enjoy making music,” says Ian Hipps regarding the state competition.

Healthy competition is essential to the growth of any performer, artist, athlete, and student in general.

The talent of these musicians blows me away. It's crazy to think the boy sitting next to you in English may become the next genius composer.

Daniel Jaggars explains this musical opportunity by saying that, “having the chance to perform this kind of music is really inspiring for a musician. We definitely shared some very emotional and intense moments on stage, and that was a very rewarding experience.”

Congratulations to all district, regional, and all- state orchestra qualifiers!

Until next time!
