After its recent success, the Gouldsboro Area Foundation (GAF) has decided to make their fashion show/luncheon an annual fundraiser.

Although in its first year, the fashion show/luncheon attracted a sold-out crowd to the Gouldsboro train station. Much like the Foundation’s Night at the Races and summer golf tournament, this will become a staple to their annual fundraisers.

The models featured in the show were children of GAF volunteers and other school-aged children from the area. All of the money raised during the fashion show/luncheon, as well as other fundraisers are used for maintenance and upkeep of the train station.

Constantly trying to promote the museum, Jeanne Kurash, GAF strategic planner, said, “We have a museum in the front of our building and I’d say about 90 percent of everything in there is authentic to Gouldsboro to the ice-cutting era.”

In addition to the museum, the train station, located on Main Street in Gouldsboro, also has a gift shop where they sell items related to the Gouldsboro area. They even have DVDs and books that explain what life was like in the early 1900s.

The GAF, which offers individual, family and lifetime memberships, meets the last Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. at the train station.

The station is open on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and every time the train stops there are always antique cars on display. Each week, the station’s historical ladies also dress up in period costumes to add to the whole “historical” experience.

The GAF would like to thank the following sponsors of the fashion show/luncheon: Peebles (Sharon Wheeler, Manager), The Dutchman, Penn Security Bank, S&H Supply, Gouldsboro Self-Storage, Hometown Hardware, Knight Well Drilling, Flower Construction, Allstate Insurance (Daleville), Bill’s ShopRite, Gouldsboro Post Office, Burger King (Gouldsboro), Mendicino’s, Toriannah’s Cakes N’ More (Moscow), Rite Aid (Daleville), O’Donnell’s, Cut Outs (Moscow), First National Bank (Daleville), Bud and Jeanne Kurash, The Healthy Eaters (Gouldsboro), Brooks and Nancy Brown and Protus and Barbara Phillips.

Some of GAF’s upcoming events include: bake sale/flea market, Sept. 4, 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.; overnight wine trip, Oct. 16/17; Steamtown train stopping, Oct. 23, 11:30 a.m./12:30 p.m.; dancing ‘witches’, Oct. 31; Christmas in Gouldsboro, Dec. 11, 9 a.m. breakfast with Santa; townwide cookie exchange, Dec. 19, 1 p.m.

If anyone has any additional information or would like to contact the GAF, please call Jeanne at 842-6129.
