Arabesque Academy of Dancing will present their third annual holiday production on Saturday, Dec. 17, at 7 p.m. at the Mellow Theater in Scranton.

The dance school, located on Blue Shutters Road in Roaring Brook Twp., will present a new and original version of the holiday favorite “The Nutcracker.” This original production entitled “The Nutcracker Ballerina” will tell the tale of Clara as she travels on a wonderful and magical Christmas journey.

This wonderful story will incorporate all of the Arabesque dancers portraying a variety of roles including magical Christmas trees, friendly mice, and dancing Teddy Bears - all of which come to life during the story. Along with Clara, other characters from the classic version of the Nutcracker will appear such as the Snow Queen and Sugarplum Fairy.

“This incredible show is made possible through donations from the Anastasia Fund,” said Amy Belcher, Artistic Director of the dance school. The fund is in place in memory of Anastasia Jaditz, a Clarks Summit woman who was killed in the North Pocono area while attending The University of Scranton.

Jaditz was a dancer and true lover of the arts, and through the generous donations of her family and friends, the Anastasia Fund was set up in her memory. Proceeds from this fund are used for dance scholarships for local dancers as well as to assist with the production of arts performances for children.

Belcher added, “This is our special way of remembering her each time the students perform and in this special way, this will always keep her dancing. We want this to be a very special Holiday tradition for our students, their families, and the entire community. We even have a visit from Santa at the end of the performance with an opportunity for all the children to visit with them.”

Members of the public are invited to attend. Tickets can be obtained by calling the studio or at the door on the evening of the performance. The cost is $10 to $15 (depending on seat location). Proceeds from the performance as well as donations will be taken for the “Anastasia Fund.”
