The Honesdale National Bank (HNB) Center for Economics Education at the University of Scranton is pleased to announce once again the HNB Newspaper Stock Market Challenge featuring six local school districts.
This online stock market simulation allows students to manage a hypothetical investment portfolio.
On March 19, teams of students from each school began making investment choices with $100,000 in cash and deciding which stocks to purchase or sell short. The competition continues until May 23.
Throughout the 10-week period, teams of students will work together to research investments and track their portfolio value.
In the process, students will increase their knowledge of investments, savings, and money management. Each week the three schools with the greatest portfolio value will be highlighted in this paper.
The participating school districts are: Forest City, Lakeland, North Pocono, Wallenpaupack, Wayne Highlands and Western Wayne.
This is the third year HNB has sponsored EconomicsPennsylvania programs. This non-profit organization brings financial and economic education to Pennsylvania students.
During the HNB sponsorship, over 1,000 students in five local schools have had the opportunity to play the SMG.
In addition, HNB has sponsored the game throughout a six county region, giving over 5000 students the opportunity to participate in this rewarding educational program.
Editor’s Note: Weekly rankings will be featured in the newspaper.
